Underground & Submarine Cables Business Line Leader - Transmission & Distribution (Kansas City)
**Description** The Underground & Submarine Cables (UGSC) Business Leader reports directly to the Vice President of Ascending Business and has the responsibility of overseeing KCM’s UGSC profit and loss, and the overall UGSC business strategy. This position will facilitate focused growth in the underground cables market, while collaborating and directing the project execution teams. This leader will be responsible for developing the strategy and direction for furthering BMcD’s underground cables business position in the T&D space, establishing and managing the strategic business plans, setting annual objectives and key results (OKRs), advising major project execution, managing direct reports, and facilitating collaboration with T&D regional leaders. The anticipated job duties for this position include: Business Management + Own the profit and loss for the UGSC business line in Kansas City. + Develop and communicate the annual business plan and OKRs of the underground cables business line. + Oversee the execution of the underground cables portfolio with a focus on the following: + Monitor portfolio metrics for the underground cables business and instruct project managers and account managers on necessary improvements or required changes. + Participate in contract reviews, negotiations, and general advisement during new and renewal processes with clients. + Promote the BMcD Quality Management System and its utilization. + Direct the business on new markets and service offerings + Ensure compliance with Burns & McDonnell and site safety policies. + Verify that quality is maintained and that resources across the business line are appropriately trained in providing exceptional deliverables to clients. + Support the execution of best practices, sharing lessons learned across regions. + Collaborate with T&D business line managing directors and managers on the development of project management processes and procedures. Business Development + Establish Burns & McDonnell’s position in the underground cables market, both domestically and internationally, through strategic direction and business planning, focusing on continued growth in market share and profit. + Support the development, completion, and execution of client capture plans. + Work with business development leads and managers to identify target clients and opportunities, while coordinating pursuits with the sales team and seller-doers. + Build relationships with existing and new clients through client events, trade shows, and other client maintenance activities. + Drive cross-selling opportunities across Global Practices and Regions. + Support and advise account managers in underground cables business pursuit decisions, including “go/no-go” decisions, marketing strategies, proposals, pricing, contract negotiations. Personnel + Maintain and support a positive culture in the UGSC business line personnel + Support underground cables business hiring activities and leadership staffing decisions. + Manage and develop project managers and business development leads within the underground cables business line. + Work with appropriate department managers and project managers to maintain adequate staff to support current and forecasted workload. + Assist the T&D Regional Operations Managers/Directors in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of strategic hires. + Promote and drive diversity initiatives. Collaboration + Lead the collaboration and coordination of the underground cables business amongst T&D and Regional leaders. + Support the development of diverse delivery methods and markets including: + Program management + EPC + HVDC + Competitive transmission + Renewable collector system and interconnections + Offshore wind + International business opportunities + Present and disseminate necessary information to the T&D Global Practice at department and division meetings. + Work with the leadership in each Region to ensure opportunities are being adequately and appropriately pursued and supported throughout the underground cables business. All other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Ascending Business. **Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related degree from an accredited program. + Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage. + A minimum of 7 years, 10 years strongly preferred, relevant consulting experience, preferably in the power delivery industry is required. Extensive underground cables business experience is not required. + Previous business line leadership experience is preferred. + Five years of supervisory experience is preferred. + Licensed Professional Engineer preferred. + Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. + Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills. + Demonstrated results in business development and developing client relationships. + Demonstrated results in managing projects, including proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination. + Demonstrated success in project financial performance. + Excellent knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Office products. + Ability to travel up to 40%.
