ULTRASONOGRAPHER
SUMMARY
The Technologist will serve as a primary member of the Patient Care Team. He/she will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the program. The technologist is responsible for all diagnostic equipment operations and calibration processes. The technologist must perform all diagnostic procedures. The technologist must be able to operate all technical equipment in order to produce diagnostic sonograms for the radiologists’ interpretation. The technologist must be able to perform all routine and emergency ultrasound exams.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Professional knowledge of Ultrasound and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
Cannot be on probation from ARDMS more than once.
Meadville Medical Center is an American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited hospital. All sonographers must be certified prior to hire and remain in compliance with required continuing education appropriate to their practices.
A vascular diagnostic study may be personally performed by a physician or a technologist. All non-invasive vascular diagnostic studies performed by a technologist must be performed by, or under the direct supervision of, a technologist who has demonstrated competency by being credentialed in vascular technology, or, such studies must be performed in a facility accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) or the Non-Invasive Vascular Ultrasound Accreditation of the American College of Radiology (ACR). Examples of appropriate certification include the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential and the Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) credential in Vascular Technologist. Direct supervision requires the credentialed individual’s presence in the facility and immediate availability to the technologist performing the study.
The ability to concentrate and prioritize work. The ability to learn and perform new techniques and equipment. Utilization of all types of ultrasound equipment. Utilization of PACS equipment and PACS-related equipment and technology.
Must be able to make decisions concerning procedures in the absence of the manager and lead technologists.
