PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Fabricate and assemble standard shipping boxes, crates, skids and shipping arrangements by cutting material to size, drilling, nailing, glueing, packing, securing, bolting and strapping according to established procedures or as directed for all types of products and components.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Table saws, band saws, drill presses, hand tools such as hammer, saw, nail puller, metal stamp, vibra tool, chisels, pinch bar, measuring tapes, strapping machines, wrenches, brushes, gloves, labeling and stenciling equipment, etc. Weigh scales, gantry and jib cranes, hand carts and trucks, stackers, etc.

MATERIAL:

Boxes, skids, crates, cardboard, wood, steel, wire, protective devices, cushioning material, paper, nuts, bolts, studs, nails, etc. Shipping instructions, procedures, charts. Cleaning agents, degreasers, and preservatives.  All types of finished products, component parts and assemblies.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

1.    Receive work assignment from supervision or leadman.

2.    Read and follow safety regulations and procedures and MI package including sketches, drawings, change notices, shipping lists, breakdowns, labels, specifications and work authorizations.

3.    Determine size and type of standard container or skid according to the volume and size of products and type of container specified.

4.    Select and obtain proper saw blades, drills, etc.  Set stops and guides on machines working from drawings or layout and operate equipment to cut materials to size and shape. Mark and drill holes as required.

5.    Fit and assemble standard boxes, crates and skids by nailing, glueing, taping, bolting and strapping according to established methods and procedures.

6.   Clean, preserve and protect products and components as required.

7.    Identify parts and shipping containers and arrangements according to method specified.

8.    Load and secure containers to rail cars, trucks or other transportation equipment.

9.   Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

10.   Dispatch or move completed work to designated areas.

11.   Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

12.   Perform other work of equal or lower classification as required.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or equivalent GED.Minimum of 1 year experience working in a manufacturing or maintenance environment.Minimum of 1 year work experience performing assembly tasks.Minimum of 1 year experience using tools, such as Table saws, band saws, drill presses, and hand tools such as hammer, saw, measuring tapes, stenciling equipment, weigh scales.Minimum of 1 year experience with interpreting blueprints, sketches and manufacturing instructions.Minimum of 1 year experience with operation of gantry and jib cranes. Minimum of 1 year experience with operating hand carts and trucks, stackers.US citizenship is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 2 years of work experience with various software such as SAP, and Microsoft suite etc.Minimum of 2 years’ experience using and interpreting mil standards.Minimum of 2 years’ experience interpreting and applying packaging instructions.
