We are hiring a **Senior Scientist – Chemist** to join our **Richmond, VA** Team
In Tyvek®, we deliver new products for new/existing markets, improvements in manufacturing, and/or entirely new technology platforms and assets. Our Research Investigators define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on product and process technology development, based on a strong understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles. They are active members of the broader global technology community.
**Your Key Responsibility:**
+ Identifying and assessing new or improved lab capabilities.
+ Use solid scientific principles to design and conduct lab experiments, prepare samples, characterize materials, and understand composition and property relationships.
+ Developing analytical methods for monitoring product chemistry throughout process.
+ Analyze process and product data to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to enhance manufacturing productivity and product quality.
+ Lead projects aimed at raw material qualification and risk mitigation, ensuring supply chain reliability.
+ Define and direct lab research work as needed with associate investigators and technicians to ensure project success.
+ Collaborating in global, cross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technical disciplines.
+ Guide and mentor junior team members, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
+ Communicating analyses and findings through technical reports and presentations.
+ Partnering with internal and external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs.
+ Develop and support lab standard practices to improve safety and quality.
**Qualifications:**
+ PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or related disciplines.
+ 2 to 5 years of previous professional experience, preferably in manufacturing and/or laboratory roles.
+ In-depth knowledge and practical experience in thermal and mechanical analysis of polymers.
+ Proficiency with some of the following analytical techniques: HPLC, UPLC, LCMS, GC, GCMS, GPC, Karl Fisher titrator, rheometer, UV-vis spectrophotometer, spectroscopy (e.g., FT-IR, FT-NIR)
+ Understanding polyethylene chemistry, processing, manufacturing, and characterization.
+ Preferred: Knowledge in the areas of good manufacturing processes, processes, and/or product scale-up, polymer processing, six sigma methodology.
+ Excellent problem-solving skills, with the capability to analyze complex issues independently and apply new perspectives to existing solutions.
+ Ability to document and communicate research finding effectively for both technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Experience working with hazardous chemicals.
