The Water & Protection business is part of DuPont and is a global leader in products and solutions that protect what matters – people, structures, and the environment. As part of our Tyvek® growth plan, we are seeking scientists and engineers who will participate in flash spinning technology development as well as in product development and introduction to market.
This hiring initiative represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, empowered R&D team that applies a rich understanding of materials, polymer science & engineering, chemistry, and chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering. We work in a very diverse environment with the mission to develop nonwoven membrane solutions that protect people, property, and critical products and processes from the hazards that threaten them.
Primary Responsibilities:
In Tyvek® R&D, we deliver new products for new/existing markets, improvements in manufacturing, and/or entirely new technology platforms and assets. Our Research Investigators define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on product and process technology development, based on a strong understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles. They are active members of the broader global technology community within Water & Protection and DuPont.
Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Defining, leading, and executing product and process research and development programsConducting lab, experimental and modelling workParticipating in cross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technical disciplinesPartnering with scientists and other engineers to scale processes to commercial productionPartnering with external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs, as neededWriting and communicating technical reports and presentationsManaging intellectual property (IP); understanding relevant IP and competitive landscapes and actively developing new IPThis job may require travel up to 25% of work time.
Qualifications:
MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplineSolid knowledge in the areas of transport phenomena (mass and heat) and fluid dynamicsDeep understanding of mechanical engineering principles as applied to equipment design or optimization of process unit operationExperience with 3D CAD design is preferredExperience with polymer processing and/or web handling equipment is beneficialFamiliarity with FEA and/or CFD analysis is beneficialProfessional experience is preferredCompetencies (required)
