**Job Summary**
The Tumor Technician collects, abstracts, and codes cancer-related data in accordance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. This role supports regulatory reporting, quality initiatives, and research by maintaining accurate and complete case records in the cancer registry.
**Essential Functions**
+ Abstracts and enters reportable malignancies and select benign tumors into the cancer registry database according to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
+ Codes and stages diagnoses using standard classification systems including ICD-O, AJCC TNM, SEER, and Collaborative Staging.
+ Performs follow-up activities to verify or update patient status, treatment, and outcomes.
+ Prepares data reports and summaries to support internal audits, quality initiatives, and regulatory submissions.
+ Participates in data quality reviews and continuous improvement activities related to cancer registry operations.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School graduate from NCRA approved Certified Tumor Registrar program or related training that equates to eligibility for CTR certification preferred
+ 1-3 years of experience in cancer registry, health information management, or clinical data abstraction required
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Knowledge of cancer staging and coding systems such as ICD-O, AJCC, and SEER.
+ Proficiency in registry software and electronic health record systems.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
+ Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply coding guidelines.
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ CTR - Certified Tumor Registrar preferred
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support preferred
