Truck Driver - Full Performance

Full Performance-level truck drivers are responsible for loading, driving, and unloading trucks within the WMA. They must hold a Class A driver's license, with endorsements, and be capable of operating a range of vehicles to include tractor-trailers, box trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
**Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities**
+ Prepares for trip:
+ Receives local or nationwide trip assignment and manifest from section chief.
+ Performs safety inspection of vehicle and notes any needed repairs on vehicle condition report.
+ Performs routine vehicle checks and tops off oil, antifreeze, and windshield fluids as required, as well as adjusting tire pressure.
+ Assists with truck loading as necessary, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.
+ Records travel data in driver's log.
+ Operates truck:
+ Drives truck to designated local or nationwide delivery point(s); may be accompanied by another driver.
+ Provides necessary badge/access control documentation to guard at delivery point.
+ Assists in identifying items requiring special handling at delivery point.
+ Unloads truck using a variety of material handling equipment, as necessary, and delivers material to specific customers in office settings; professionally represents the Office of Logistics (OL) by providing excellent customer service.
+ Picks up material for return delivery.
+ Communicates with dispatcher via laptop computer with communication software, when driving outside of the metro WMA.
+ Reloads and returns.
+ Assists crew with loading backhaul cargo, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.
+ Confirms that material loaded onto truck corresponds with return trip manifest.
+ Records travel data in driver's log.
+ Completes trip accounting, using computer-based reporting system.
+ Perform ad hoc warehouseman duties such as loading/unloading trucks and moving materials between designated staging locations.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
+ Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of a range of vehicles and material handling equipment (i.e., cab-over, day cab, and conventional tractors; flatbed, lowboy, car carrier, 53 foot, and wide load trailers; cranes, military vehicles, scissor lifts, buses, etc.) within the scope of the commercial Class A driver's license, with endorsements.
+ Thorough knowledge of loading cargo vehicles to ensure that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.
+ Ability to obtain a thorough knowledge of Sponsor-unique policies and regulations that pertain to the secure transportation of materials.
+ Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations on transportation of hazardous materials.
+ Thorough knowledge of loading dock and tractor-trailer safety procedures and requirements.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications.
+ Ability to obtain a working understanding of the Working Capital Fund (WCF) business operating structure.
+ Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
+ Expert ability to read maps and follow directions to locate proper delivery destinations.
+ Ability to operate a range of vehicles, including box trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
+ Ability to pay attention to detail to ensure that the material delivered and/or picked up matches with what is documented on the cargo manifest.
+ Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance in accordance with Sponsor regulations.
**Work Environment**
Truck drivers may be required to work in a warehouse where they may be exposed to fumes from vehicles, noise, and dust. Truck drivers must be able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs. and operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. Periodic use of computer terminals is required. Upon occasion, delivery of time-sensitive operational cargo may require driving in extreme weather conditions -- conditions in which other commercial truck drivers would not normally operate.

**Minimum Qualifications**
Experience:
One (1) year of truck driving experience, including long-haul driving and heavy equipment trucks over 10,000 lbs.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Special certifications:
+ Class A driver's license, with the following endorsements: HAZMAT endorsement; double and triple wide trailer endorsement.
+ Valid DOT medical physical for operating trucks.
+ Forklift certification.
