Main responsibilities:
Supervises and directs the activities of truck drivers at the Distribution Center and assists with coordinating inbound and outbound shipments according to Company policies, practices and procedures.
Supervise drivers and perform routine dispatching functions. Provide a safe work environment through awareness, communication, observation and coaching. Keep abreast of Federal, State, and Municipal laws and regulations including FMCSA, DOT, FSMA, OSHA, and others applicable to transportation operations. Understand and follow rules, practices and procedures outlined in Company Policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements. Actively participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives aimed at efficiency and cost reduction. Train drivers and follow up with coaching as needed during the onboarding period. Review and ensure adequate equipment, drivers and third-party carriers are available for daily operational needs and adjust as necessary based on volume, attendance and other variables. Monitor driver’s daily work assignments and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Work with drivers to improve driving skills using various tools including Smith System training and Lytx DriveCam. Manage on-road driver assistance, coordinating with the Vehicle Maintenance shop and outside parties for breakdowns, towing and similar situations. Coordinate with stores regarding deliveries, asset returns and product moves. People responsibilites: ~150 Truck DriversWe are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Two-year college degree or two years’ experience dispatching and managing truck drivers. Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred but not required. Good communication, coaching and problem-solving skills. Basic computer skills. Strong knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations applicable to the trucking industry. Basic knowledge of safety related to the operation of tractors and trailers. Experience with routing software, Onboard Computers and other systems related to transportation. Basic understanding of delivery and pick up procedures. Experience in Union environments and Collective Bargaining Agreements. Understanding of basic truck routing concepts and objectives. Able to meet demanding deadlines. Travel requirements: <10%The position will be based in Portland, OR.
