Main responsibilities:
Supervise Transportation Department activities and personnel on one shift to ensure that all functions are performed within Company, Distribution Center, DOT and Department guidelines.
Supervises, trains, and develops driver personnel in the safest, most economical way to deliver products to the food stores. Develops and maintains a working relationship and supportive role with members of the Area Staffs. Solves specific store delivery problems, as needed. Ensures all stores receive a high level of service while controlling transportation expenses. Recommends store delivery pattern changes to the Distribution Planning function as needed. Ensures that timely communications exist between transportation, the stores and the warehouse. Coordinates deliveries along with the distribution planning function for all new stores and re-grand openings within assigned areas. Investigates and helps solve complaints involving Jewel deliveries in neighborhoods surrounding the stores. Spot checks for drivers (while on the road) at store locations, rest stops, backhaul terminals, etc. Encourages safe and conscientious care of all Transportation and Store equipment. Investigates driver related accidents and injuries while preparing accurate and factual reports, to include requesting video as needed. Investigates property damage involving customer complaints near or around the stores Reviews driver log to ensure accuracy of delays, route of travel and driver expectations as a means to hold all drivers accountable for productivity, to include performing driver audits. Possess working knowledge of all transportation electronic programs such as “Cams/Prospero, DriveCam, Qualcomm, and PINC”. Coach, mentor, and address the driver group regarding any DriveCam events. Provides management coverage of terminal operations as needed. Monitor dispatch systems to ensure timely dispatch of outbound and inbound deliveries. Monitor reports and systems to ensure compliance with D.O.T regulations, including driver hours of service. Verify compliance of all FSMA and SFTA procedures Monitor dispatch activity to ensure timely delivery to stores. Perform other duties as assigned.We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Retail store operations experience preferred. Transportation experience including loading of trailers a plus. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Strong organizational skills required. Basic computer skills required. Possess ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results. Possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone. Track record of good judgment and able to achieve results with minimum supervision. Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.The position will be based in Melrose Park, IL.

Pay Range: $75,000 - $80,000 annual
Starting rates may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include healthcare, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits (401(k) eligibility).
