The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities. **This position will perform various types of traffic studies by using comprehensive software programs, electronic counting devices, radar detection, and video cameras which are all used in gathering, processing, and analyzing traffic data as assigned within the Metro District Traffic Data Collection Unit.** **Examples of Work:** + Coordinate and prioritize data collection activities independently with the appropriate state and local government agencies. + Program, synchronize and install electronic counting devices, video equipment, and radar equipment to collect traffic data. + Review collected data for discrepancies and errors. + Process collected data using comprehensive software programs such as Centurion Parks, PetraPro, CountPro, and CountCam data analysis & reporting software, Word, Excel, and other pertinent documentation. + Build and provide complex traffic study reports. + Effectively communicate with customers explaining the evaluated collected traffic data in written or oral format. + Review two-year cycle data collection locations and maps with prior year locations and maps for accuracy. + Schedule, map and prioritize data collection locations per cycle increments. Perform activities required to investigate tort claim against MnDOT and reporting and recording the outcome of the investigate. This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and has the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor. **Minimum Qualifications** **_The level of experience to perform this job at the_** **_Transportation Specialist_** **_level can be achieved with:_** + **_Four years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities;_** **_OR_** + **_Three years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND one year of experience in any of the following areas:_** **_road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits._** + **_A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience._** **_Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees:_** **_Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics._** **_(In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts)._** + **_Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records._** **Preferred Qualifications** + Knowledge and application of Traffic Control Devices, Traffic Engineering manuals and MnDOT design standards. + Knowledge of CADD, ArcGIS, and ArcView. + Knowledge of data collection techniques and analyzing data. **Additional Requirements** It is our policy that the successful candidate pass a background check prior to employment.
