Description
The Transportation Safety Officer will assist the Director and Assistant Director of Transportation, and is responsible for initiating, organizing, and directing safe driving and transportation safety training programs in compliance with New York State laws and agency policy. Work includes setting up safety programs; training programs; evaluating driver competency; investigating and reporting complaints and accidents.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Instructs and trains new transportation drivers in compliance with Article 19A of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
+ Responsible for training and orientation of new drivers throughout the agency
+ Will evaluate Drivers competency through the use of oral, written and performance based tests and instruction.
+ Conduct research to determine the cause of an accident and/or injury to determine the root cause of the accident and develop and present solutions.
+ Serve as the primary liaison with the agency’s insurance provider, coordinating accident claims and communications with adjusters, repair shops, and body shops as needed.
+ Will lead the accident review committee in coordination with safety risk management.
+ Will investigate reports from the public of safety hazards or problems with the transport of the people served by The Arc Mid-Hudson and will make appropriate reports recommendations to correct the situation.
+ Will work with the Transportation Assistant/Director to design and implement safety trainings and initiatives to prevent accidents and promote safety.
+ Will check bus routes and pick up locations for safety and will make recommendations to the transportation supervisor.
+ Will periodically check all vehicles for compliance of all safety laws and need for repair in coordination with the vehicle maintenance supervisor.
+ May assist with scheduling staff and assigning vehicles to assure that daily agency transportation needs are met with adequate resources.
+ Responsible for exercising disciplinary action in accordance with The Arc Mid-Hudson Policies.
+ These duties may include, but are not limited to, clerical work (not specified above) and driving assignments.
HOURS: 40/Monday through Friday/8:30 am to 4:30 pm/hours may vary
STARTING SALARY: $ 24.85 to $ 28.96 per hour
Minimum Requirements
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ A valid New York State Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger endorsement
+ A driving record acceptable to The Arc Mid-Hudson
+ Must hold current DMV certification as a 19A Certified Examiner or be willing to obtain it within 18 months. 1–2 years of training experience is preferred
