Transportation Operations Manager

Job Summary 

The Transportation Operations Manager leads a team of logistics professionals who are responsible for the day-to-day transportation execution and project related activities and ensures our carriers and suppliers are executing to their expected KPIs, SLAs and contractual obligations.

Success in this position is primarily measured by cost reduction/avoidance impact and ensuring a high level of service performance is achieved by our suppliers and operations team to established KPIs/SLAs.  The job holder must also work with other departments on transportation-related projects, thus providing a high level of service to the company. The jobholder supports the development process through mentoring and coaching execution team the implementation of new transportation services and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Actively manage the execution of transportation activities through management of all dispatching functions of outbound order movement utilizing both internal (SAP) and external systems (TMS). Manage daily performance of transportation operations team and monitor team’s performance to established KPIs/SLAs and resolve any deficiencies. Works closely with internal teams in coordinating solutions to daily transportation/logistics issues with suppliers and internal customer service/supply chain personnel to ensure seamless on-time deliveries while exceeding both internal and external customer expectations. Manage the relationships between the internal / external customers and suppliers. Work with suppliers to resolve contractual service deficiencies to KPI/SLAs. Work with QA, suppliers, and plants to address, resolve, and escalate transportation quality issues Responsible for executing RFP awards with internal / external stakeholders and ensure transportation requirements are met by suppliers in accordance with agreed-upon capacity requirements. Optimize or implement the use of appropriate automation tools/standard forms. Responsible for the overall OS&D process. Support cost savings projects by identifying and tracking savings opportunities. Identify, source and lead cost savings initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Bachelor’s degree preferred, with preference towards Business, Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain or Operations Management. Advance degree a plus 7+ years’ experience in managing daily transportation operations categories such as bulk and package truck, intermodal, or export movements highly preferred Demonstrated ability in building and developing a team of professionals in transportation management Experience working with and managing suppliers to set KPI/SLAs and conducting service performance analysis. Experience with internet-based load management (track and trace) software, SAP, Warehouse Management or Transportation Management systems, Business Warehouse or similar reporting packages, databases, and analytical tools highly preferred. Strong contract negotiation skills and has ability to negotiate positive outcomes with both internal and external partners Strong analytical skills with high level of organization, follow through & accuracy. Ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy. Strategic mindset with ability to communicate and build consensus around proposed opportunities on complex topics at all levels in the organization in a clear manner Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment Demonstrates high level of customer service skills Able to prioritize in complex and fast-paced environment Knowledge of all MS Office products
