Job DescriptionAvery Dennison is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Transportation/Logistics Manager to join our Materials Group North American Supply Chain team. This pivotal role will oversee all end-to-end transportation activities across North America, focusing on optimizing freight planning, cost efficiency, and service excellence.
In this role you will be responsible for both inbound and outbound freight operations, as well as the management of our internal fleet. You will play a crucial role in shaping our transportation strategy, ensuring efficient and reliable movement of goods while driving cost savings and maintaining high service levels for our customers.
This position requires strong leadership, as you will manage a team with several direct reports, including other managers. Collaboration is key; you will partner closely with our procurement team and be heavily involved in carrier reviews and Request for Proposal (RFP) processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Freight Planning: Develop and implement robust freight planning strategies for inbound, outbound, and inter-company movements to optimize routes, modes, and carrier utilization.
Cost Management: Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives across all transportation functions, including freight negotiation, route optimization, and operational efficiencies. Manage transportation budgets and analyze spend to ensure financial targets are met.
Service Excellence: Ensure high levels of on-time delivery and customer satisfaction by monitoring carrier performance, resolving service issues, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Carrier Relationship Management: Partner with the procurement team to manage carrier relationships, lead business reviews, and execute RFP processes to secure high level service levels while balancing costs.
Fleet Management: Oversee the operations, and strategic development of our internal fleet, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and safety.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing transportation team, including managing managers and individual contributors.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, sales, finance, and customer service teams to align transportation strategies with broader business objectives.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all transportation activities comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Technology & Data: Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and data analytics to drive continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
QualificationsQualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a transportation or logistics-related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role, with demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, including managing other managers.
Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS) is a must
Proven expertise in end-to-end transportation management, including inbound, outbound, and private fleet operations.
Strong understanding of freight planning, carrier management, cost optimization, and service level agreements.
Experience with carrier negotiation, RFP processes, and contract management.
Experience in any Warehouse management system and other supply chain software is preferred
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
Additional InformationThe salary range for this position is $115,325 - $145,301/ year. The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
