This is the first or entry craft level of the Substation Tech hierarchy. A Substation Technician Learner will assist a higher level technician in activities associated substation construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence.
Responsibilities
Clearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rulesBasic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements Basic understanding of the isolation of substation equipment and grounding practicesDemonstrates good verbal and written communications skillsBasic understanding of electrical drawings (substation equipment schematics and power system drawings)Basic understanding NERC compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned workBasic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsDevelops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical orderBasic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systems Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activitiesDevelop a basic understanding of AC and DC basic principlesDemonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devicesBasic/Required Qualifications

The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.Residency Requirement: Must have a permanent residence approximately forty-five minutes from their base location.
