Job DescriptionThe Lead Electrical Substation Engineer is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of primary circuits within the transmission and distribution network. Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). We are looking for a strong leader with a power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in electrical power engineering coupled with leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership:Lead a team of engineers and technicians in the design and execution of primary circuit projects.Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets for primary circuit installations and upgrades.Coordinate with stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies, to ensure project success.Design and Engineering:Oversee the development of primary circuit designs, including substation layouts, overhead lines, and underground cables.Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to optimize primary circuit designs for efficiency and reliability.Ensure compliance with industry standards, company specifications, and regulatory requirements.System Analysis and Optimization:Identify opportunities for system improvements and efficiency enhancements.Implement solutions to address system reliability and performance issues.Technical Expertise:Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in primary circuit design and engineering.Review and approve technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and reports.Field Support and Troubleshooting:Provide on-site support during construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities in case is required.Resolve technical issues and address challenges related to primary circuit installations.Documentation and Reporting:Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, project reports, and status updates.Ensure accurate documentation of primary circuit designs, modifications, and as-built drawings.Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.Experience: 10+ years of experience in T&D primary circuit design and project management, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.Willingness to travel occasionallyAble to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessaryThe responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projectsProvide leadership for the other electrical engineers in our Power teamWorking with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activitiesPerforming Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)One line and three-line diagramsConducting arc-flash hazard calculations to determine arc-flash boundaries and required PPEProtective relay and metering one line / three-line diagrams AC/DC schematicsPanel LayoutsEquipment layouts and sectional viewsConnection DiagramsBill of MaterialsCable SchedulesDC power distribution designDeveloping construction and equipment specificationsSupporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioningGrounding Analysis and DesignReviewing engineering work performed by peersAttending client meetingsClient and site field visitsNice to have:
Professional Engineer license.Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, PIP etc).Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.Plant Startup and Commissioning Field ExperiencePower systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, Etap).Solar or wind facility experienceExperience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks)Additional Information#LI-IP1
