We know that experience comes from many sources - personal, professional, educational, and extra-curricular.  Some of our best folks did not start with a STEM background.  Some experiences to consider including in your application and/or cover letter include a curiosity to understand complex systems and an ability to explain downstream impacts to challenging problems. Other ways to demonstrate leadership include student, educational, or external groups where you’ve had to seek external funding or manage a disparate set of team members towards a common goal.

Not all problem solvers are engineers – so consider where you’ve helped an organization improve a process, or where you’ve tested something new to demonstrate the implemented solution works under varying conditions. You should mention passion projects that can include small single board computers like a Raspberry Pi or Audino or where your life, a part time job or the family’s IT expert, has led you to manage a network, or help those that need technical assistance.  We’re always excited to see projects where you’ve had disparate code that you’ve threaded together into a proof of concept to solve a problem.

We welcome examples outside of the ones above that demonstrate similar attributes. We look for those with a passion for transit, a penchant for problem solving, and a touch of curiosity and creativity. These examples can come from a job, volunteering, student event, community, or personal experiences
