Job Description

Job Summary 

The Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing and processing dictated or recorded audio into written form for medical, legal, or other purposes. The role involves listening to audio files and converting them into reports, notes, or documentation while ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. The Transcriptionist works closely with healthcare providers or other professionals to ensure timely and accurate documentation. 

Essential Functions

Transcribes dictated or recorded audio into written reports, documents, or notes, ensuring accurate and timely output. Edits and proofreads transcribed materials for grammar, clarity, consistency, and adherence to organizational and industry standards. Ensures that transcriptions meet the required formatting and documentation guidelines for the facility and/or regulatory compliance. Verifies the accuracy of information such as medical terms, procedures, and patient information by cross-referencing with source documents or consulting with relevant personnel. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. Submits completed transcriptions in a timely manner to the appropriate department or professional. Keeps up to date with industry-specific terminology and practices to ensure accurate and current transcriptions. Operates and maintains transcription equipment, ensuring proper functioning and addressing any technical issues. Participates in quality assurance activities to continuously improve transcription accuracy and efficiency. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

0-1 years of experience in transcription or related clerical roles required Familiarity with medical terminology preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong listening skills with the ability to understand and transcribe audio recordings accurately. Proficiency in typing and computer skills, including knowledge of word processing software. Strong attention to detail and the ability to proofread and edit transcriptions for accuracy. Familiarity with transcription equipment and technology. Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
