Job DescriptionThe Transcriber is responsible for transcribing and captioning news, specials, scripted programs, sports, and a variety of other shows for Telemundo and the NBC organization using all types of text-to-speech programs and AI platforms.
Job Duties:
Responsible for writing, timestamping, and performing quality control on all of Telemundo’s closed captioning and subtitle files for broadcast, Peacock, and Netflix among othersResponsible for transcribing shows, promos, movies, and short videos in Spanish with 100% accuracy (proper punctuation, accentuation, tenses and free of misspellings errors)Translates television programs, promotional material, films, and short videos without being literal and finding the most native interpretation in the language being translated intoManages multiple concurrent projects with varying deadlines and priority levelsEscalates potential delays or technical issues that could impact delivery timelinesPerforms quality control on text-only and text files with video, both in English and Spanish, whether they are transcriptions or translations, to deliver a final text 100% free of grammatical or contextual errors such as wrong tenses, missing punctuation, improper spelling, or wrong pronounsMaintains detailed logs of project progress and completion statusViews videos on the platforms to perform quality control of the final productPrepares quality reports on both external providers and internal productUtilizes software like Dragon Naturally Speaking, Stanza, or any other AI text generators to transcribe or translate audio with the goal of accelerating processesDelivers the final product using the established workflowsUtilizes subtitles created by internal or external transcribers or translatorsConducts proactive research on any unknown terms for both transcription and translation when delivering a final productWorks under the direct supervision of Sr Manager, Edit & Language Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager or Supervisor as neededQualificationsBasic Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of prior/relevant experience in transcribing and/or captioningNative or near-native English proficiency (written and verbal) is required, with working knowledge of Spanish sufficient for translation support.Exhibits strong command of English standards following The Chicago Manual of Style.Exhibits knowledge of subtitle standards and closed captioning regulations by the FCC.Prior experience using technology, such as speech-to-text converters, to speed up translations and transcriptionsPrior experience using AI programs such as AWS to accelerate translation and transcription processesPrior experience with cloud-based collaboration platforms (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365)Proven ability to work with multiple monitors and multitask between translation and transcription toolsDesired Characteristics:
