Position Summary The Training Specialist serves as a key contributor to the Learning and Organizational Development (L&OD) team within UNC Greensboro Human Resources. This position is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating professional development programs that enhance employee skills, support institutional goals, and foster a culture of continuous learning. The Training Specialist collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs), campus stakeholders, and HR colleagues to apply evidence-based instructional design practices and adult learning principles in the development of blended learning solutions, including instructor-led, virtual, and asynchronous content. This role also supports project planning, marketing of LOD offerings, and measuring the impact of training programs on individual and organizational performance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of learning and development experience.  Experience developing and delivering training content to a diverse audience. Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of instructional design approaches (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) with the ability to assess needs, design and develop engaging learning experiences, create high-quality materials, and evaluate effectiveness. Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, organizational development, human resources, or a related field. Proven track record of designing, delivering, and facilitating impactful training programs for adult learners, from concept to completion – creating original, effective courses tailored to diverse learning styles and needs. Experience using Learning Management Systems (e.g., Percipio, Canvas) to build, deliver, track, and report on training programs. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to connect with and engage diverse audiences. Human Resources experience or familiarity with HR-related training topics is a plus and can help in creating training that supports organizational goals. Essential Tasks Conduct needs assessments to identify learning gaps and recommend evidence-based learning solutions. Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex content into accessible, engaging learning experiences. Apply instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to create blended learning solutions, including eLearning modules, instructor-led training, and microlearning. Facilitate engaging learning sessions and workshops for a variety of audiences across campus. Lead learning projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment with strategic objectives. Essential Tasks Serve as a consultant and trusted advisor to campus units regarding professional development needs and opportunities. Promote LOD initiatives through campus engagement, digital communications, and targeted outreach. Cultivate collaborative relationships with HR colleagues, academic departments, and administrative units to co-create training solutions. Represent the LOD team on committees and workgroups, advocating for inclusive and effective learning practices. Model and encourage shared ownership of development across all levels of the university. Percentage Of Time 20% Key Responsibility Apply adult learning theory, instructional design best practices, and facilitation expertise to enhance learning effectiveness. Essential Tasks Design learning experiences grounded in adult learning principles, equity-centered frameworks, and evidence-based approaches. Select appropriate instructional methods, technologies, and media to optimize learner engagement and retention. Develop learning objectives, content outlines, participant guides, facilitator materials, and assessment tools. Facilitate interactive sessions using inclusive strategies that support diverse learning styles and backgrounds. Evaluate instructional effectiveness using formative and summative feedback and adapt content accordingly. Percentage Of Time 20% Key Responsibility Consult with departments to support organizational effectiveness, process improvement, and change management initiatives. Develop and implement customized development plans and interventions that promote team performance and operational excellence. Provide coaching to managers and teams on leadership development, communication, and change readiness. Stay current on trends in higher education, workforce development, and instructional technology to inform best practices. Measure and report on the impact of learning and organizational development strategies using meaningful metrics. Essential Tasks Manage logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, registration, room reservations, virtual platform setup, and materials coordination. Maintain accurate records of participation, assessments, and feedback within the Learning Management System (LMS). Respond to inquiries and maintain key communications through LOD email accounts and websites. Compile data and generate reports and dashboards that communicate program reach, satisfaction, and outcomes.
