Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is an interim position while the trainee completes Phase I and Phase II of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy at SFHS. In Phase I, the initial training, will commence and when completed the supervising Pharmacist signs off on the request for a permit. Only after receiving the permit will the employee begin to complete Phase II, the on-the-job training, which must be completed within ninety (90) days of receiving the permit. The trainee must meet all guidelines and time frames to continue in the program.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is an interim position while the trainee completes Phase I and Phase II which requires a Pharmacy Technician permit from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee must comply with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy training guidelines for Phase I and Phase II and adhere to the time lines for obtaining a permit and completing the training. The trainee must meet all guidelines and time frames to continue in the program.
Work Experience: No previous experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to learn and demonstrate learning of pharmacy computer software including order entry, ADC’s (automated dispensing cabinets), unit-dose packaging and pharmacy inventory retrieval systems. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize and organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Ability to type or perform data entry.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Phase One, Initial Training, is detailed by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy and is inclusive of : Orientation, Job Descriptions/Job Duties; Communication, Pharmacy Laws and Rules, and Security and Safety. Phase Two, On-the-job training, is detailed by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy and is inclusive of: Pharmaceutical Vocabulary, Mathematical Terminology and Systems, Drug Nomenclature, Classification of Drugs, Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms, Routes of Administration, Materials Management and Drug Dispensing.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction.
