Traffic Signal Technician - Centennial, CO

This position is responsible for working with the City Traffic Engineer, Traffic Operations Coordinator, and other staff to provide a variety of duties related to the installation, integration and maintenance of traffic signal system and intelligent transportation system (ITS) elements. The candidate for this position has an entry to mid-level knowledge of these activities and at least some familiarity with how the activities integrate with and impact other areas of work. The primary functions of this position include performing field inspections of traffic signals and various ITS devices; collecting related as-built and field data; collecting data and updating an inventory of the traffic operations network; and performing maintenance and upgrade activities for the signal system, ITS devices, and other traffic control devices. Bring your team-focus, adaptability, and commitment to excellence, and we’ll help you grow what drives you - and deliver the world’s most challenging Operations Management projects, together. #omfs #bia #ourjacobs Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles and assigned equipment in operable condition. • Respond to utility locate requests from Colorado 811 affecting the traffic signal and ITS infrastructure, including performing after-hours, on-call field locates. • Perform traffic signal and ITS maintenance and construction services, including but not limited to the following: preventative maintenance, device replacement and/or upgrade, and new device installation. • Respond to inquiries or emergencies related to traffic signal operations, including performing after-hours, on-call services to address signal malfunctions. • Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, and regulations. • Effectively communicate with management, employees, other departments, the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. • Assist the City Traffic Engineer in construction inspection and quality assurance for capital projects related to traffic signal and ITS improvements • Support the Traffic Operations Coordinator and other staff as needed in the operation and maintenance of the traffic signal and ITS system, including but not limited to the following: collecting as-built information; maintaining an asset inventory and database; working with GIS to incorporate information into a geospatial database. • Performs other similar duties as assigned. *Onsite Employees are expected to attend a Jacobs Workplace on a full-time basis, as required by the nature of their role* • High School Diploma or GED • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Safety certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain within 6 months • IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level I or ability to obtain within 12 months • Two (2) years of experience in the traffic signal field • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook • Must possess a valid State driver’s license • Must be capable of personally driving a company vehicle in the performance of the duties contained herein • Strong interpersonal relationship skills, and verbal and written communications skills Ideally, You'll Also Have: • Four (4) years of experience in the field maintenance of traffic signal and ITS field equipment, including knowledge of construction methods and materials • Ability to read blueprints, surveys and job specifications • IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II or ability to obtain within 12 months Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Due to the nature of traffic signal malfunctions and other urgent public safety considerations, work hours for this position will include participation in a mandatory after hours on call rotation that is currently shared with one other technician position. The employee will perform most duties in an outside work environment. The position requires the employee to perform duties at a job site; at times working alone and at times working very closely with others. The employee may be subject to all types of weather and temperature conditions and various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces. Employee must be able to move or carry objects or materials and must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty pounds of force frequently.
