Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. This is a Versant role.
Based in our Los Angeles offices, this role is ideal for an experienced trademark analyst who thrives in a fast-moving environment and is excited to roll up their sleeves, solve novel challenges, and create smart, scalable processes. You’ll work on iconic existing brands and help launch new brands. You will work closely with senior legal and business leadership, providing critical support across trademark prosecution, clearance, and enforcement.
The Responsibilities
+ Manage a robust trademark filing portfolio, including prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement.
+ Partner with business teams to support the naming and launching of high-profile brands in the media and digital industries.
+ Select and manage outside counsel on clearance, prosecution, and programmatic enforcement efforts.
+ Conduct and analyze clearance searches, including trademarks, titles, and editorial.
+ Ability to gather and analyze key data (economic, enforcement, risk) to shape overall trademark and enforcement strategies.
+ Draft legal documents and correspondence such as cease-and-desist letters, affidavits/declarations, agreements, powers of attorney, and chain-of-title records.
+ Collaborate closely with legal leadership to develop best practices and shape team operations.
+ Install and maintain trademark and other databases and manage Versant’s IP database vendors.
The Qualifications
+ Paralegal certificate, or other equivalent education.
+ 4+ years experience as a paralegal in trademarks or broader IP.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel).
+ Experience with trademark docketing systems (e.g., Anaqua) and search platforms (e.g., SAEGIS).
+ Expertise in the U.S. and international trademark processes and legal frameworks.
+ Ability to see around the corners, and experience evaluating risk with imperfect information and have the confidence to make quick decisions.
+ Ability to work effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, thing pragmatically and be solution-oriented.
+ A proactive, curious, and adaptable attitude.
+ Knowledge of the media industry is a plus.
Key Details
+ Versant offers a hybrid work model, with a minimum of three days per week in-office (Universal City, CA).
+ This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), and access to a range of other employee perks. Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000.
