Trade Coach & Internal Auditor – Distribution

The Opportunity

Downer is seeking a Trade Coach & Internal Auditor to join our Energy NZ team, supporting the delivery of electrical distribution services across the East-Central networks. In this dual-role position, you’ll combine hands-on coaching of field crews with internal auditing to uplift technical performance, drive compliance, and maintain Downer’s reputation for excellence with our primary customer, Powerco.

This role is perfect for a technically skilled trade professional with a passion for mentoring, high standards in safety, and a keen eye for continuous improvement. You'll play a vital part in ensuring that work is done right, safely, and to the highest quality — the first time.

What You’ll Do

Provide technical coaching and mentorship to trade staff, including onboarding support. Conduct internal audits on field work, safety practices, and compliance processes. Deliver clear audit reports with corrective action plans and track resolution progress. Engage with regional teams and clients to share insights and foster continuous improvement. Perform “Planned Service Experience” observations and provide timely feedback.

We’re after a trade-qualified, industry-savvy leader who thrives on lifting standards and inspiring teams. You’ll bring:

Extensive experience in electrical distribution or maintenance contracting. Proven coaching and mentoring skills in technical environments. Familiarity with audit processes and safety/quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 45001). Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all levels. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with high attention to detail.
