Tooling Technician

Job Title: Tooling Technician

 

Job Summary

Linamar Structures Southfield is seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to support our machining operations by maintaining, repairing, and optimizing tooling used in the production of front and rear knuckles for OEM automotive customers. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a machining environment, troubleshooting tooling issues, and ensuring all tooling meets quality and production standards.

 

Responsibility

 

Perform setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production tooling, fixtures, robots grippers, conveyors pallets, and cutting tools used in CNC machining processes. Inspect, repair and replace tooling to ensure optimal performance and minimize machine downtime. Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production staff to improve tooling performance and resolve issues. Conduct regular preventative maintenance on tooling to extend lifespan and reduce unexpected failures. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for tooling improvements, ordering, and inventory management. Ensure tooling changeovers are executed efficiently to meet production schedules. Utilize precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify tooling accuracy and compliance with specifications. Manage and maintain our tooling inventory (spares and customers owned tooling) Document tooling issues, maintenance activities, and improvements using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other tracking tools. Follow all safety protocols and quality standards, ensuring compliance with company and industry regulations.

 

Academic/Educational Requirements

 

High Schol Diploma or equivalent general education.

 

 

Required Skills/Experience

 

2+ years of experience in a machining or tooling environment, preferably in an automotive manufacturing setting. Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, tool holders, fixtures, and cutting tools, Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications. Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Familiarity with tooling materials, coatings, and wear characteristics. Basic understanding of G-code programming, CNC and CMM machines operations is a plus. Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics schematics and troubleshooting. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Willingness to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
