Job Description:
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Tooling Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will be responsible for directing and coordinating tooling operations to include internal and external tooling repair, PM execution and spare part inventory. Manage NPD, product launches, design and implementation of operational tooling projects, and provide technical expertise enhancing existing designs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and coordinates tooling operations to include internal and external tooling repair, PM execution and spare part inventory
Lead tool review meetings to ensure alignment on tool design prior to kick-off.
Continuous improvement and sustainability of tooling, equipment and processes within the operations team
Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance strategy to track the status of and ensure the maintenance of new tools. Partner with in-house tooling associate to execute basic PM’s as-needed.
Establishes and maintains internal tooling standards and implements best practices (including designs, components, spare parts, etc.).
Troubleshoots production issues where tooling support is needed or requested.
Utilizes data to propose refurbishments, updates, modifications, and repairs to tooling.
Participates in design reviews to challenge tooling designs, provide direction related to new launch tooling, and attends onsite/offsite (vendor) sampling meetings.
Fosters relationships with new and existing tool shops for tooling work.
Visits machine shops as needed to coordinate the repair and modification of tools.
Provides leadership on tooling initiatives, Supports tool room work as needed with the setup, review or maintenance of tools.
Coordinates sampling, metrology, and necessary modifications of new tools.
Defines and supports the execution of Tooling IQ, OQ, and PQ efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLSDevelop long and short-term capital plans, ensuring that all projects are planned properly, and the results are achievable.QUAQU:
Minimum 5+ years hands-on experience with all type of conventional tool room machineries -- grinding, milling and EDM of hands-on tooling and tooling design experience required.
4-year college degree in related field or its equivalent or 10 years’ experience in injection mold making and preventive maintenance.
Strong understanding of mold building, raw materials, equipment, and molding techniques required.
Ability to mentor, train and develop personnel.
Strong experience with high cavitation injection tools required.
Possesses knowledge of punch integrated tooling, double shot and insert molding required.
Ability to perform mold flow analysis required.
Knowledge of calculating press tonnage and cycle times required.
Ability to travel up to 10% required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Compensation Information:
This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this role. Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, market level, other job-related factors, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. As applicable this role will also receive overtime compensation and may be eligible for shift premium compensation.
Pay Range: $75,000-110,000
