Division Description

The ITW StampTech Fastener Division serves the major OEMs and Tier suppliers in the North American automotive market.  The division supplies stamped metal fasteners and engineered fastener assemblies that leverage our deep-draw stamping technologies.  The annual revenue for the division is approximately $160M.  Locations include Gallatin, TN, Lexington, KY & Naugatuck, CT.

The Tool Designer is responsible for supporting department metrics for safety, quality of parts and work, production uptime, tooling cost and improvements.  This position is within our tooling team and has the potential for future growth opportunities for a high potential candidate.  This position will report to the Tooling Manager.

Job Responsibilities

Work to support the CAD needs of new product and tool development, tool estimation, and continuous improvement projects for existing tooling.Generate new die design solutions, create strip layouts, facilitate design reviews, update CAD models to reflect design review output, support product development reviews, and provide design input determining manufacturing feasibility.Generate and/or make changes to electronic files (CAD Drawings) as instructed per engineering, change and document control processes.Creation and updating of multi-view detail drawings from sketches, layouts, marked up drawings, and written instructions to meet tooling and CAD guidelines.Work in conjunction with engineering change and document control processes to manage the CAD file directories to ensure accessibility of the most recent file update and deletion of old or obsolete data files.Provide support and assistance to the tooling department to help alleviate and solve any tooling issues as they arise.Create and implement new innovative tooling solutions to improve efficiency and impact the quality of parts being produced.Manage and facilitate outside vendor design and review processes for outsourced tooling and/or outsourced production projects.Support validation trials at vendors and internal tool launches and implement changes as necessary to meet output requirements for tooling and products.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum 5 years of experience designing complex progressive stamping dies (automotive preferred).Minimum of a 2-year technical degree or equivalent qualified experience.Proficient utilizing 2D & 3D CAD software, SolidWorks experience preferred.Capability of utilizing FEA or other predictive design software a plus.Knowledge of GD&T dimensioning.Knowledge and experience in tool manufacturing technology, equipment, and methods.Strong Tooling knowledge with the ability to diagnose problems and guide others in correcting tooling issues.Understanding of utilization of die sensors, vision inspection and die protection.Experience working in an ISO 9001 (IATF (TS) 16949 preferred) facility.Great organizational and time management abilities.Attention to detail.Effectively communicate in a professional demeanor when dealing with the public or any level of employees. Ability to safely work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.Ability to work in a team environment or independentlyAbility to work overtime if needed.
