SUMMARY:

Want to be a part of the team that is taking thermoplastics and composites to the next level?  Andersen is looking for an experienced engineer to join our exciting and rewarding thermoplastic composites and process development research and development team! Be a core member of the team that develops and evaluates new or existing thermoplastic materials and process technologies for Andersen’s extensive portfolio of products.  

In this position, you would be responsible to lead research and development efforts for projects enhancing the Andersen thermoplastic composite material technology platforms. This role would also be responsible to lead a team of materials engineers by providing strategic direction while coaching and developing the team, identifying projects in collaboration with design & sourcing, prioritizing projects based on business value, organizing stakeholder updates, and facilitating objectives and key results planning for team. 

Projects will be individually, or team led, and may include enhancing existing thermoplastic composite materials, improving quality, reducing cost, stabilizing supply chains, reducing waste, defining process property drivers, and/or investigating, developing, and commercializing new thermoplastic composite technologies. A large component of this role is to apply and coach the scientific method to assess and build confidence in feasible technical solutions. In addition, you will act as the voice of the thermoplastic composite’s development technical area to the business, sourcing, operations, and product teams.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a thermoplastic composite engineer lead in the Thermoplastics and Extrusion Development (TED) group with a focus on thermoplastic composite materialsProvide leadership, coaching & development, and strategic technical direction to thermoplastic composite materials teamEstablish and sustain robust and collaborative relationships with key partners and suppliersFacilitate opportunity identification in collaboration with sourcing and product teamsMaintain priority alignment in collaboration with sourcing and product teamsFacilitate thermoplastic composite team’s OKR planning and provide progress updates to leadershipLead and manage projects through stage-gate project management processLead and manage innovation projects while driving progress regardless of ambiguityCollaborate with sourcing, design, and operations to help develop scope, scale, and strategy of ambiguous innovation projectsGain alignment with leadership on innovation project proposalsUse a science-based approach and tools to solve complex technical problems with practical solutions (i.e., Design of Experiments, process mapping, process capability analysis, Pugh matrix, FMEA, MSA, control plans, etc.)Work independently and collaboratively on most aspects of work, only requiring general direction with occasional work reviewCreate and execute test plans, along with writing and reviewing test reports to capture Andersen knowledgeStay abreast of industry technology developments and explore their use in Andersen productsEffectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels internal and external customersTravel as needed. Up to 20% travel.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS 

B.S. Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or similar Engineering degree with 8-10 years’ experienceCross-functional project management experience with preference to thermoplastic composite experienceExperience in performance management, coaching, and mentoringProven track record in strategy development and deploymentSelf-motivated with a strong technical curiosity and ability to handle ambiguity and the fuzzy front end of innovation projectsAbility to navigate shifting prioritiesPassion for ambiguity and innovationExcellent oral and written technical communication skillsStrong scientific and data-based approaches to problem solvingProficiency in statistical analysis (such as design of experiments) along with statistical softwareExperience in FEA simulation boundary condition development, interpretation of results, and calibration of simulations with realityPassion in building and sustaining relationships with our internal and external customers and suppliers

NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS 

Experience in thermoplastic processes such as blending, compounding, and extrusionPrior supervisory experience preferredMechanical aptitude and a willingness to be hands onCOMPENSATION: Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process. Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $99,216 - $153,784.

PROFIT SHARING: In 2025 Andersen has set a profit sharing target of $3,500 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
