Thermal Generation Development - Project Manager 

POSITION SUMMARY

Generation Development is primarily responsible for supporting Southern Company’s retail operating companies with the siting, development, deployment and acquisition of power generation and energy storage resources. This position will lead direct reports and cross functional project team(s) in pre-development, development and approval of new, fossil-fired resources. 

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of engineers/analysts as well as indirect supervision of associated and supporting functions and personnel Lead cross-functional teams of internal stakeholder groups including, but not limited to, Technical Shared Services (TSS), Accounting Finance and Treasury (AFT), Environmental Affairs (EA), Power Delivery (PD), Fuels, Legal, Plant Operations, and Supply Chain (SCM) Lead role in the development, negotiation, and execution of major capital project contracts (e.g. OEM CT/ST/HRSG equipment, external EPC, etc.) Preparation of comprehensive project costs and associated business case Performance of Lifecycle Cost Analysis (LCA) including economic evaluations and profitability analysis using spreadsheets, production simulation software and financial models Preparation and presentation of project details to all levels of enterprise-wide management and peer groups 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics, economics or finance required Advanced degree is desirable; MBA preferred

Experience:

Prior supervisory experience is highly desired Proven and demonstrated success leading a cross-company, multi-function enterprise team through a large, complex project  In-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and/or operation of power generation technologies is highly desired Proven and demonstrated analytic skills including the ability to communicate complex topics verbally and in written form Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office applications is required Exhibited high proficiency in the development and delivery of information using PowerPoint and other visual messaging software Experience with fundamental production cost models such as Aurora is preferred

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This position will require up to 25% travel (day-trip & overnight), primarily within the Southern Company retail footprint Some relocation assistance is available if the selected candidate currently resides outside the Birmingham area
