Job Responsibilities
Demonstrate proficiency with the UHS scheduling system to efficiently coordinate therapy appointments and related servicesManage the insurance authorization process by utilizing knowledge of health plan resources and contacts to facilitate timely patient careRespond promptly to patient phone calls, providing clear communication and counseling regarding insurance benefits and authorization requirements Complete all necessary authorization forms—both paper and electronic—with accurate and complete information including diagnosis codes, procedure codes, signatures, specialist details, and medical documentationAccurately document all communications with insurance companies, patients, and other entities within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system Prioritize authorization requests to ensure urgent cases are expedited, responding promptly to meet deadlines and patient needsEnsure compliance with regulatory standards such as Joint Commission, NYS Department of Health, Infection Control, and other applicable policies throughout the authorization processParticipate actively in Performance Improvement initiatives to enhance departmental efficiency and patient service qualityPerform medical secretary duties as assigned, supporting administrative functions within the therapy departmentCollaborate with insurance carriers to obtain preauthorizations for therapy services, acting as a patient advocate when necessary to resolve authorization issues or disputesWork closely with the Therapy Denials team to assist in the reconsideration process when authorizations have been denied, providing necessary documentation and follow-upAssist in the orientation and training of new staff members regarding insurance authorization procedures and benefit verification processes, and attend relevant team meetings to stay informed and alignedPosition Qualifications
Education and Experience
Minimum Required:
