The Cuyahoga Falls Civil Service Commission will administer an open, competitive written examination for the position on July 29 at the Cuyahoga Falls High School Cafeteria, 2300 Fourth St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. The written examination will start promptly at 6 p.m. A valid driver’s license or state-issued ID must be presented for identification purposes on the evening of the examination. Under direct supervision as a learner in training, the Apprentice Lineworker will assist another employee of higher classification in the operation, construction and maintenance of utility facilities, including routine groundwork. Under close supervision with a higher-classified employee, the apprentice may also work on secondary lines. Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and at least 18 years old; have physical and mental attributes to climb and work aloft; and have the ability to work from simple drawings, make simple field sketches, and learn the layout, functions, and operations of the electrical equipment involved. Applicants must also be non-smoker/non-tobacco/nicotine users, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc., and refrain from using all tobacco/nicotine products for the duration of employment with the City of Cuyahoga Falls. Applicants must possess a valid state of Ohio Class A commercial driver’s License (CDL) or obtain a CDL within six months from the completion of the city's in-house CDL entry-level driver training program. Extra credit will be given to certain individuals who have completed service in the uniformed services, as well as any applicant who is a member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces. Apprentice Substation/Meterworker The City of Cuyahoga Falls is seeking applicants for the position of Apprentice Substation/Meterworker. The Cuyahoga Falls Civil Service Commission will administer an open, competitive written examination for the position on July 17 at the Cuyahoga Falls High School Cafeteria, 2300 Fourth St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. The written examination will start promptly at 6 p.m. A valid driver’s license or state-issued ID must be presented for identification purposes on the evening of the examination. Under directive supervision as a learner in training, the Apprentice Substation/Meterworker will assist another employee of higher classification in the operation, construction and maintenance of substation structures and equipment. Under close supervision with a C Substation/Meterworker or above, the apprentice may work on circuits energized at secondary voltages within the confines of a substation. Under closer supervision in the field or shop, the apprentice may also assist employees of higher classifications and learn to inspect, install and remove self-contained types of single-phase watt-hour meters with or without demand attachments. Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and at least 18 years old; have physical and mental attributes to climb and work aloft; and have the ability to work from simple drawings, make simple field sketches, and learn the layout, functions, and operations of the electrical equipment involved. Applicants must also be non-smoker/non-tobacco/nicotine users, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc., and refrain from using all tobacco/nicotine products for the duration of employment with the City of Cuyahoga Falls. Applicants must possess a valid state of Ohio driver’s license and the ability to maintain continuing eligibility under the city’s driver eligibility standards; must possess a valid state of Ohio Class A CDL or obtain a CDL within six months from the completion of the city's in-house CDL entry-level driver training program.
