Test Technician

Description

The Engineering Test Technician supports product engineering by performing a wide variety of tests as requested, This includes conducting tests to set test codes as well as development of new test methods. As an Experienced Engineering Technician this person is expected to have the capabilities to perform standard testing responsibilities in their assigned area(s) unassisted or with minimum guidance. Has the ability to work simi-unsupervised and assist with mentoring entry level technicians

Responsibilities

Responsible for working with the Lab Manager and Test Engineers to meet test schedule requirementsAssist in the development, optimization, and maintenance of lab equipment and procedures including mechanical and software applications as it pertains to testing requirements.Conduct tests on outdoor power equipment and report results at the direction of engineering personnelPerform tests on durability, performance and safety of outdoor power equipmentTroubleshoot test unit failures or test equipment failures to determine root causeEffectively communicate failure details to Test EngineerMaintain documentation of test data to allow for clear reporting of test results at the completion of the testConstruct necessary tooling/fixtures as directed by test engineer and as required to properly test units or components. Fabricate and fit mechanical and electrical components.Perform preventative maintenance on test equipment as directed by test engineer.Collaborate with Test and Design Engineers to optimize test proceduresCreate clear and concise Test Reports to communicate test resultsSchedule use of test assets to maximize utilizationProvide technical support to Test Technicians and internal customers to achieve highest quality results and report on test results as required.Assist in specifying, locating, and acquiring test equipmentEnsure that safe work practices are followed in field testing operations. Plan and direct activity to maintain compliance with company safety and environmental policies and procedures, to include all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Investigate and report all safety issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associate degree in Technical Science (MET, Electronics, etc.) or equivalent experience and on the job trainingKnowledge of data acquisition (e.g. LabView), PLC, strain gauges, accelerometers, electric circuit board diagnosis, and knowledge of software applications that pertain to testing systems3 or more years of hands-on experience in a technical lab setting, including a minimum of 2 years in a testing environment; Or equivalent combination of education/experienceDemonstrated performance in leading groups of technical employees and meeting department goalsIntermediate-level skills in MS Office (particularly Excel, plus Word, Outlook)Ability to work off shift hours and overtime (including weekends) as requiredDemonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environmentASE or technical certification (e.g. Motorcycle Technician) preferredPrevious experience with agency test methods and requirements (UL, CSA, etc.) preferredPrevious experience with testing outdoor power equipment and/or consumer products preferredFamiliarity with ISO and UL requirements related to test methods and calibration of measuring devices preferredFamiliarity with LabView and/or other reliability engineering software applications preferredDemonstrated ability to implement and improve systems and methods to improve efficiency preferredAbility to travel occasionally to domestic and/or international sites preferredKnowledge of 2/4 stroke engine operation and repair/rebuild procedures preferredProficient in fabrication skills (welding, machining, etc.) preferredComputer Aided Drafting skills preferred

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
