Essential Duties:
Manage daily operations of the battery test laboratory, including scheduling, workflow planning, and resource allocation. Supervise and mentor a team of test engineers and lab technicians, ensuring training and development. Oversee the setup, execution, and documentation of performance, cycle life, storage and safety tests for Lithium-ion battery cells and modules. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs),test protocols, and documentation. Build out the lab’s capabilities by specifying and commissioning new equipment as required. Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and safe operation of lab equipment (e.g. cyclers, environmental chambers, thermal systems). Establish and track KPIs for lab throughput, test accuracy, and uptime. Lead continuous improvement efforts to optimize lab efficiency, accuracy, and throughput. Interface with R&E, Quality, and Lab teams to support testing for product development, validation, and failure analysis. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations. Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations based on test data and findings. Manage lab budgets, procurement, and inventory of consumables and spare parts. Support customer visits, demonstrating lab capabilities and quality practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field 5+ years of experience in battery testing, validation, or related fields, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong knowledge of lithium-ion and other battery behavior, failure modes, and testing standards. Familiarity with test equipment such as Arbin, Maccor, Bitrode, or similar. Proficient in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python) and report writing. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Understanding of lab safety procedures and hazardous materials handling.
Preferred:
Background in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other quality improvement methodologies. Previous experience designing and scaling a test lab.
