Teradata Database Administrator

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Teradata Database Administrator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall health, performance, and security of our Teradata environments. You will work closely with technical teams, developers, and vendors to ensure high availability, optimized performance, and continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Administration:

Manage and administer Teradata environments including backup and recovery, patching, and client installs. Perform system monitoring, object creation, and security management. Support system migrations, upgrades, and patch applications in coordination with Teradata support. Maintain high availability and optimal performance through proactive performance tuning and capacity planning.

Performance Optimization:

Collaborate with developers to write and review optimized SQL queries. Monitor database performance and perform workload management and priority scheduling. Analyze system usage, identify recurring issues, and implement long-term performance improvements.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration:

Provide L2 and L3 support, ensuring timely incident and problem resolution. Participate in on-call rotation for production support. Guide and mentor team members, fostering technical growth and sound decision-making. Work cross-functionally with teams utilizing Informatica, MicroStrategy, and other technologies.

Process & Change Management:

Fulfill service requests and manage incidents, problems, and change requests. Ensure compliance with data governance, modeling, and standardization practices. Conduct patch, release, and capacity management in collaboration with Teradata PDCR teams. Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.

Environment & Feature Management:

Install, configure, and maintain Teradata base software and environments. Conduct proof-of-concept testing for new features and capabilities. Research and communicate new Teradata functionalities in an easily understandable manner.

Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination:

Log technical support tickets and escalate issues as needed with Teradata support. Provide regular reporting and analysis to stakeholders. Consult with application development teams on technical concerns and SQL best practices.

Required Skills & Expertise:

Strong understanding of Teradata architecture and concepts including: Partitions, Primary Indexes (PI), Secondary Indexes (SI) Skewness and statistics collection/management Workload management and performance tuning Experience with capacity and utilization monitoring, backup and recovery strategies Knowledge of data security policies, change management processes, and governance Hands-on experience in incident/problem/service request handling in an enterprise setting Familiarity with supporting tools and integration platforms like Informatica and MicroStrategy
