Tenure-track Open Rank Professor in Biostatistics

The University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) is seeking applicants for a tenured or tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of **Biostatistics** to support the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACCC) Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR), along with conducting other research within PHS. The candidate will develop and lead a multidisciplinary research program along with contributing to team science collaboration in support of the mission of the Cancer Center. The successful candidate will **preferably conduct research and education in clinical trials and/or clinical biostatistics, and collaborate in cancer clinical and basic science studies** . In addition, the position will provide opportunities for developing his/her own high-impact statistical research. The successful applicant must be motivated, independent and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Finally, the successful applicant will have teaching and service responsibilities, and is expected to participate in appropriate national and international organizations.
PHS offers a vibrant academic home with access to rich datasets and support services for research. The department provides comprehensive and multi-disciplinary scientific and analytical services to the University of Virginia School of Medicine through its Divisions of Biomedical Informatics; Biostatistics; Translational Research and Applied Statistics; and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. The Department offers two master degrees, an MS in Clinical Research and an MPH. Successful candidates will contribute to the design and implementation of the graduate education curriculum; teach intermediate and advanced graduate level methods courses, conduct research, and advance scholarship in their area of expertise. The UVACCC is based in Charlottesville, Virginia, and serves a large racially and ethnically diverse catchment area ranging from northern VA to Southern and Southwest VA, and includes areas in West Virginia. The UVA Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center; the only cancer center with this recognition in Virginia. Its mission is to reduce the burden of cancer for the patients of today, through skilled, integrated, and compassionate care, and to eliminate the threat of cancer for the patients of tomorrow, through research and education. The Cancer Center has over 200 faculty members from 25 departments within the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Education, Data Science, and the College of Art and Sciences, with more than $75 million dollars in funded research annually. It is a premier institution in basic cancer research, with substantial contributions to the understanding of cancer cell and molecular biology, and strength in translational, clinical and population-based research. **Minimum Requirements**
Education: Ph.D., or other doctoral degree, in biostatistics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
Experience:
· Collaborative biomedical/clinical research experience
· A record of peer-reviewed publications in statistical methods and collaborative research, commensurate with rank
· Proven track record of, or potential for, extramural funding
**Preferred Requirements**
· Expertise in the design and analysis of early phase clinical trials
· Experience in adaptive clinical trial design
· A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in both statistical methods and collaborative cancer research, commensurate with rank
· Active extramural funding from NIH or similar funding agencies
· Teaching experience at the graduate level

**Physical Demands**
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
