Description of Work Unit
The Department of Animal Sciences has the unique mission of serving Colorado’s large and diverse livestock industries. Research, teaching and extension outreach activities in the Department of Animal Sciences focus on developing industry leaders and improving profitable production of horses and food animals through the application of science and technology, resource management and food product enhancement, with emphasis
on addressing societal issues concerning food safety, product quality and value, animal care and management, and environmental impacts of animal agriculture.
Colorado State University seeks temporary ranch hands for the livestock and farming operations at the Eastern Colorado Research Center near Akron, Colorado. Enterprises include a commercial herd of 300 cows, yearly development of 500 replacement heifers, a 1000 head research feedlot, and 450 acres of dryland farm ground. The facility serves multiple purposes including research, education, extension, and outreach.

Position Summary
This temporary hourly position will assist with ranch and feed operations for livestock as well as facilities maintenance.
Position Minimum Qualifications
• Employees must be able to provide documentation to their employers to show their identity and prove their authorization to work.
• Experience in a beef cattle and/or feedlot setting.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible work arrangement including evenings and weekend hours during peak season.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, which include ability to lift up to 50lbs. daily and will require manual dexterity, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and handling.
• Ability to work in environmental conditions to include exposure to weather and noise. Hazards include: working in proximity to moving, mechanical parts.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in upkeep and maintenance of facilities, equipment, land, and/or feed resources.
• Commitment to quality assurance, humane livestock handling, performance testing, and accurate data collection and recording is essential.
• Candidate must demonstrate integrity and professionalism in a team environment.
• Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
