Role Overview

The Senior TEMPEST Design Engineer will participate in the design, test, build, and manufacturing process of high assurance encryption products required to comply with NSA TEMPEST specifications and other TEMPEST directives. TEMPEST experience and engineering expertise will be used to develop high assurance encryptor products, as well as execute a production TEMPEST sampling program and address any test failures. This role will act as a TEMPEST advocate to the product hardware development team and train/mentor others in TEMPEST compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities

Interface with customers, product leaders, and the NSA to understand product TEMPEST needs and align with internal R&D investment, and future product roadmapsConnect with key TEMPEST technology forums, consortiums and committeesTrain and monitor TEMPEST testing technicians and other test staffInterface with other TEMPEST Test Labs to ensure overflow testing capability as requiredDefine, communicate, and maintain TEMPEST best-practices, doctrine, and internal standards aligned to product area roadmaps, customer needs, and industry trendsAuthor EMI/TEMPEST Control Plans, TEMPEST Test Plan/Procedures, Test reports, and TEMPEST position papersCollaborate with Hardware electrical and mechanical design teams to develop TEMPEST compliant designs that are implemented into productsParticipate in design reviews, review Schematics and drawings to ensure TEMPEST considerations are accounted forParticipate in the Certification of a new state-of-the-art TEMPEST facility and oversee certification under the TEMPEST Manufacturing and Test Services ProgramLead and be responsible for TEMPEST testing in accordance with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92, and other TEMPEST specifications and memorandaLead the test team to execute Engineering pre-compliance TEMPEST testing and Formal certification TEMPEST testingWork with the Manufacturing team to ensure TEMPEST manufacturing processes are established and maintainedDevelop and train others to accomplish CTP I and CTP II CertificationDevelop, refine and Maintain production sampling TEMPEST test programTravel up to 20%

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 9 years of experience in Engineering and/or Testing)Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware design for TEMPEST productsNSA-certified TEMPEST Professional II (CTP II)This role will require a US security clearance and a prerequisite for a security clearance is US citizenship. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or PhysicsExpert knowledge of NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92, and related NSA technical memorandumsExperience using test equipment such as TEMPEST receivers, Oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters, and other general RF and laboratory equipmentExperience working with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production related issuesEMI/EMC Design and Testing experience to MIL-STD-461 or DO-160Experience in manufacturing for TEMPEST reliability of large-scale product volumes

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
