Technology Communications Director

The Director, Technology Communications is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping and amplifying Ford's technology narrative, positioning the company as a leader in automotive innovation. This role encompasses industry analyst relations, emerging technology communications, engineering innovation storytelling, and digital platform driving next-generation customer experiences. The Director will develop and execute comprehensive, enterprise-level communication strategies that align with Ford's overall business objectives, safeguarding and advancing Ford's reputation as a technology and innovation leader in the automotive industry.

In this position… 

This leader will work cross-functionally to define and drive the next phase of Ford’s technology narrative, engaging in both external and internal storytelling around advanced engineering, next-gen powertrain development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), the advancement of the digital platform driving next-generation customer experiences and other tech-related areas. The Director will collaborate closely with Ford Communications teams, Global Strategy, Investor Relations (IR), Government Affairs, and relevant research and engineering teams to ensure a consistent and harmonized technology narrative across all key business units and functions. 

You’ll have…  

15+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications, media relations, industry analyst relations, and/or related technology communications roles within a complex, global organization. Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful technology communications strategies that align with business objectives. Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with industry analysts and technology influencers. Deep understanding of the automotive industry, emerging technologies (e.g., AI, ADAS), and digital platforms. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, compelling narratives. Strong executive presence and ability to effectively communicate with and influence senior executives. Proven ability to manage a team, develop talent, and foster a collaborative work environment. Exceptional media relations skills and the ability to secure positive media coverage for technology-related initiatives. Track record of developing strategic, impactful communications plans across internal, earned, owned, and paid media channels. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and operate with flexibility in a fast-paced environment to meet tight deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

What you’ll do… 

Strategic Communications:  

Partner closely with senior executives, research and advanced engineering teams, business unit leaders, IR, Government Affairs, and members of the Ford Communications team to ensure alignment and effective execution of the technology communications strategy. Anticipate and proactively address potential technology-related communication challenges and opportunities. 

Industry Analyst Relations: 

Lead the development and execution of Ford's industry analyst relations (IAR) strategy, aligning it with the company's business objectives, product roadmaps, and overall communications goals. Cultivate and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key industry analysts covering automotive, mobility, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), manufacturing technologies, and digital platforms. Orchestrate analyst briefings, product demos, and advisory sessions to educate analysts on Ford's technology vision, strategy, products, and competitive differentiation. Monitor and analyze analyst reports, research, and commentary to identify trends, competitive insights, and opportunities for Ford to influence the market narrative. 

Executive Communications: 

Develop and refine key external messages for technology-related announcements, partnerships, and initiatives. Ensure the Executive Leadership Team is equipped to effectively communicate Ford's technology vision and strategy to external audiences. Craft compelling speeches, presentations, and talking points for executives on technology-related topics. Rapid Response and Media Relations:  In collaboration with the product and corporate communications teams, you will help with the management of new technology issues, articulate and advocate for a course of action, and prepare for issues before they happen. Serve as a key point of contact for media inquiries related to technology issues. 

Stakeholder Engagement:  

Cultivate and maintain relationships with a broad range of industry influencers, including customers, partners, technology vendors, trade/tech/business press, and industry analysts.
