Major Job Responsibilities:
The role involves engineering, maintenance, and operational support of facilities, pilot plant and manufacturing support systems. The incumbent will use his or her knowledge and experience in chemical or mechanical engineering to manage multiple projects simultaneously coordinating outside contractors to meet the needs of R&D. The applicant must have the ability to fulfill the following accountabilities:
• Support all phases of expensed or capital project engineering (pre-engineering, cost estimation, bid request, project approval, site preparation, installation, startup and acceptance).
• Support operation and maintenance of equipment associated with Sappi’s Technology Center Facilities, Pilot Plant, and Auxiliary Facility.
• Involvement in safety systems required to complete the work with Sappi employees or contracted service providers.
• Conduct all activities with a focus on maintaining and improving a safe work environment.
• Obtain deep knowledge of site infrastructure and effectively assist troubleshooting facilities systems (including occasional call-in’s on nights and weekends).
• Effectively assist with all aspects of the roll resurfacing operation requiring 12 hour shifts for one week at a time, estimated 3-4 weeks per year.
• Occasional travel to other Sappi sites, or for training, equipment FAT, conferences, etc.
• Participation on interdisciplinary project teams and will contribute to the development of technical approaches and lead sub-elements of an overall project plan
• Develop standard operating procedures “SOP’s” that appropriately incorporate safe and effective operation for new and existing equipment at the Technology Center
Education and Skills Requirements:
• Authorization to permanently work in the US.
• Work history demonstrating experience leading successful projects.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional atmosphere to provide support, technical leadership, and supervision for multidiscipline strategic projects.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of technology to contribute to the successful completion of projects.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize development work and assess feasibility.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities within multiple concurrent project timelines.
• Demonstrated capability of working with contracted service providers to complete work assignments.
• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
• Ability to learn and apply rules, safety regulations, best practices and performance standards with respect to lock out tag out, hot work, confined space entry, fall protection, and other relevant industrial safety systems
• Decision making ability and leadership skills
• Ability to learn thermal spray operations.
• Demonstrated high level of mechanical aptitude
• Engaged and motivated learner with demonstrated hands-on capability.
• Ability to obtain Maine High Pressure Boiler Operator license
• 1-3 years relevant work experience
• BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
