Job Description

The Test Technician/Technologist will work with a cross-functional team including hardware design, systems engineering, software development, program, and project management to deliver best in class products for the global market. This position will be responsible for basic test design and developing of test plan, including testing Protection relay and Networking products in the V&V (verification and validation) process. The V&V team has a key role in the R&D area, evaluating the products with a \"customer view\", including functional and application tests.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure software quality by designing, developing, and executing embedded software (firmware) tests across individual features, feature sets, or entire systems, with a focus on protection relay and networking products.

- Develop and maintain test strategies and plans, continuously improving test coverage and effectiveness based on defined quality metrics and product requirements.

- Perform regression testing to validate that bug fixes and new features do not introduce new defects, ensuring product stability and reliability.

- Apply QA methodologies and best practices to all phases of the verification and validation (V&V) process, including functional, integration, and application-level testing.

- Build deep technical knowledge in embedded systems, protection relays, and communication protocols, using analytical thinking to support validation strategies and troubleshoot complex issues.

- Exercise sound judgment in proposing and implementing solutions beyond standard procedures, leveraging both internal and limited external resources to resolve technical challenges.

- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, escalating unresolved issues and defects through appropriate channels while ensuring clear documentation and communication.

- Understand key business drivers and how testing activities contribute to broader product and organizational goals, ensuring alignment between technical execution and customer expectations.

MUST HAVES:

• Protection relay, testing and commissioning, jira, power system

• Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, BSc in Computer Science, or similar

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in the field of protection relay testing and quality assurance

• Manual testing

• Capturing and diagnosing logs for any application crashes, defect logging and defect tracking until bug closure and using tools like Jira for bug tracking

• QA methodologies, tools, and processes

• Practical knowledge of defect tracking tools and test management systems (Jira and Bugzilla)

NICE TO HAVES:

• Knowledge/experience in Power Systems (electrical substations)

• C/C++ programming in an embedded environment

• Scripting languages (Shell, tcl, pearl, python), as well as prototyping environments in Octave

• Knowledge and understanding of network communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC61850

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
