**Job Overview and Responsibilities ***
+ Work under the supervision of scientists/engineers to support the development of new products and processes.
+ Carry out fabrication of specimens, and perform physical, chemical, non-destructive, and mechanical characterisation of resins and composite materials.
+ Accurately record experimental work in laboratory notebooks and communicate findings and conclusions internally through oral presentations and written reports.
+ Support the running of the research centre by assisting local teams and participating in continuous improvement activities.
+ Actively participate in product development research and problem-solving teams.
+ Undertake any duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
+ Work in accordance with statutory and local Health and Safety Regulations, maintaining a clean, tidy, efficient, and safe laboratory environment.
+ Maintain and improve technical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques.
+ Participate in group safety meetings and independently take responsibility for safe work practices.
+ May be asked to mentor new employees on specific technical training within area of expertise.
**Education and Experience**
+ A minimum of 1 year practical experience of working in a laboratory, particularly in composites, materials science, process development, or an engineering environment is required.

+ Good communicator with supervisor, team mates, and lab colleagues; keeps all associated with assignment up to date on status and issues, using both spoken and written forms.
+ Competent to work in a chemical laboratory, including awareness of good practice in terms of laboratory health and safety.
+ Ability to accurately and concisely record experimental results and maintain laboratory notebooks.
+ Demonstrates a proactive approach to work; identifies areas for improvement in technical areas or work processes and makes proposals to management.
+ Capable of supporting more than one project and/or scientist; able to execute moderately complex experiments and testing of resins and composites, making recommendations as needed.
+ Shows willingness to support data management and post-processing.
+ Recognised as an effective trainer in area of expertise and can be asked to mentor new employees on specific technical training.
+ Able to perform most daily functions with little to no supervision; instructions provided by supervisor.
+ Shows initiative in seeking out information required for tasks.
+ Fully knowledgeable and promoter of lab safety practices and behaviours; recognises the impact of behaviour on others and appropriately alters behaviour.
+ Self-motivated; supports colleagues and participates willingly in team activities.
+ Demonstrates interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to handle emotions commensurate with scope of work.
