Job Description

The Engineering Packaging Technician will be responsible for assembling chip-based photonic packages using dedicated workstations in a laboratory setting. The role involves supporting the setup, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of photonic assembly and test equipment, assisting engineers with inspection, data collection, packaging, testing, and diagnosing issues at assembly and test stations. Accurate documentation of procedures and adherence to detailed work instructions is essential, along with following all safety protocols to ensure tasks are completed on schedule.

ResponsibilitiesAssemble chip-based photonic packages using dedicated workstations in a lab environment.Support the setup, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of photonic assembly and test equipment.Assist engineers with inspection, data collection, packaging, testing, and diagnosing issues at assembly and test stations.Perform accurate documentation of procedures and follow detailed work instructions.Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.Essential Skills3+ years of industrial experience in optical, semiconductor, or electronics packaging.Hands-on experience with delicate semiconductor optical chip packaging processes, including active optical alignment, epoxy dispense, UV curing, microscope inspection, electrical testing/verification, and use of relevant metrology tools.Experience managing lab supplies and materials inventory, and organizing equipment and tool usage.Strong communication skills, self-motivated, with the ability to work independently or under general guidance.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with high-precision active alignment is a plus.Experience operating packaging tools such as high-precision flip-chip bonders, wire bonders, die shear testers, and wire pull testers.5+ years of industrial experience in optical packaging preferred.Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant fields preferred.Work Environment

The position operates within a laboratory environment, requiring familiarity with small, sensitive components such as optical and electrical chips. The work involves electronic sensitive testing, and the use of metrology tools and standard microscopes. Experience in PCB assembly, RF, or SMT, as well as experience in clean room settings, is applicable.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
