We’re looking for a technical writer to translate complex systems into clear, actionable documentation that empowers our developers, testers, and end users. Location: Columbia, MD / National Business Park Clearance: TS/SCI with Polygraph What you will do Architect and maintain a wide range of technical documents: user guides, installation/configuration manuals, system operations playbooks, and test plans Partner with software engineers and subject-matter experts to turn deep technical concepts into concise, audience-focused copy Produce code documentation, API references, and integration guides that live alongside our software Format and harmonize technical publications—from Visio diagrams to pamphlets—ensuring consistency and compliance with NSA DS-89 standards Keep our internal documentation library organized and current, using version control best practices Research complex engineering drawings, operational procedures, and cryptologic methodologies, then distill them into digestible narratives Craft defense acquisition deliverables, training materials, and end-user manuals for DOD electronic systems What you need to have Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph 6+ years of technical writing experience on programs of similar scope and complexity Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline—or 4 additional years of TW experience in lieu of a degree Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and other documentation tools Mastery of grammar, clarity, and the art of tailoring content to different audiences Experience applying NSA DS-89 or equivalent military documentation standards What we'd like you to have Comfort working both independently and within agile, cross-functional teams Background in code documentation, API design, or developer portals Familiarity with cryptologic programs or defense acquisition processes A passion for transforming jargon into “aha” moments About BigBear.ai BigBear.ai is a leading provider of AI-powered decision intelligence solutions for national security, supply chain management, and digital identity.
