Join our team to help build a better, more sustainable world for future generations! **Job Summary:** As the Technical Proposal Writer in the Energy Services Department, you will be a critical part of a team of highly passionate and dedicated energy experts, working to advance innovative solutions to solve some of the nation’s most challenging energy problems. As a member of the Technical Sales Team, you will work to develop written communications, such as proposals and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), that are compelling and easy to understand. This position allows significant room for professional development and career growth. **What you will do:** In this role, you will work closely with our Product Experts, Engineers, and Business Development Team to draft written materials explaining the value and benefits of Energy Services offerings, electric product specifications, and energy system configurations to a variety of internal and external audiences. Job duties include: + Develop persuasive and accurate custom content, including technical content, for product brochures, offer proposals, pitch decks, RFP responses, etc. + Garner a detailed understanding of Caterpillar’s solutions to compose compelling and persuasive content from scratch. + Read, interpret, and summarize in writing electrical product and system specifications and single-line electrical diagrams. + Work collaboratively to develop response strategies, proposal outlines, writing plans, content and schedules while meeting challenging deadlines. + Ensure content is in compliance with proposal instructions and evaluation criteria set forth by customer/client and internal policies and standards. + Heavy focus on collaboratively editing documentation and deliverables in a fast-paced environment including the capability to research and analyze detailed technical processes and extract technical information. + Refresh technical knowledge on a regular basis. **What you will have:** **Industry Knowledge and Experience** Working Knowledge: + 1-3 years’ experience designing, quoting, or installing/constructing DER systems, OR + 1-3 year’ experience working for or with electric utilities, OR + Possess similar knowledge and experience that enables you to write about DER systems with expertise. **Writing** : Knowledge of writing processes, considerations and applications; ability to write materials for both technical and non-technical audiences. Working Knowledge: + Interviews experts to understand technical and commercial information related to specific subject matter. + Assesses the needs of technical and non-technical audiences prior to writing. + Drafts, corrects and finalizes writing tasks independently. + Understands and employs principles of English Composition in writing. + Adheres to company documentation and quality standards that are related to technical writing. + Cooperates and collaborates with other writers to complete large writing projects. **Value Selling:** Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs. Level Working Knowledge: + Translates the technical and commercial information into a written proposal using 'value selling' techniques to successfully engage customers. + Researches the customer's industry and organization before finalizing written work product. + Discusses issues and considerations regarding current 'value selling' practices and recommends potential improvements. + Quantifies proposed costs, benefits and value in customer terms. + Defines and documents value-added activities and their benefits to customers beyond the initial sales transaction. **Effective Communications** : Understanding of effective written and oral communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication tools and behaviors. Working Knowledge: + Adapts communication tools appropriately for the intended audience. + Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. + Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. + Makes effective oral presentations and writes accurate, informative, and well composed reports as needed. + Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. + Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups. **Relationship Management:** Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues, clients, and vendors. Level Working Knowledge: + Provides prompt and effective responses to requests and interactions. + Monitors stakeholder satisfaction levels on a regular basis. + Alerts team to problems in stakeholder satisfaction. + Differentiates the roles and responsibilities in a business relationship. + Works with colleagues to address critical issues and resolve major problems. **Top Candidates Will Also Have:** + A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a journeyman electrical license, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience (required). + Ability to read, interpret, and summarize in writing a single-line electrical diagram (required). + Knowledge of DER technologies and systems (required). + 1-3 years experience writing customer-facing documents (RFP responses, proposals, pitch decks, etc.) (preferred). + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and typing skills (required). **Additional Information:** + This position is located in Irving, TX; Kennett Square, PA; Peoria, IL; Griffin, GA; Alpharetta, GA; or Lafayette, IN. + Domestic travel up to 10-15% is required. + Domestic relocation assistance is offered for this position. + Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position. + This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office. **Final Details:** This employer is not currently hiring foreign national applicants that require or will require sponsorship tied to a specific employer, such as H, L, TN, F, J, E, O.
