Technical Solutions Agronomist
The Technical Solutions Agronomist (TSA) utilizes their expertise in applied field research and agronomic sciences to provide technical leadership to a select geography. This includes execution of the field-testing program which utilizes Research and Development protocols to support key business drivers for all facets of the Canadian Commercial Operations – including Seed, Trait, Biologicals, Crop Protection, and digital tools. Local field research identifies customer value of new technology and identifies solutions for current technical needs with commercial portfolio. The TSA is also responsible for knowledge transfer, demonstration and education of the product and system recommendations to the Customer Solutions Agronomists and Customer Solutions Leads.
This is a permanent, home-based position within the Ottawa Valley, travelling within Eastern Ontario and South-Western Quebec regions. The position is part of the Market Development Community at Bayer.
What you will do:
Execute Market Development field research programIdentifying / selection of suitable trial locations, cooperators, lease agreementsImplementation of the field program including all operations – seeding, spraying, swathing and harvestUtilize small, replicated plots or field scale testing as requiredManage data using internal database systems and prepare summaries as required to meet business needs and packages to support registrations as requiredIdentify business need for technical information – Seed, Trait, Biologicals, Crop Protection, Agronomic Systems - for the local geography that assists in driving commercial businessDevelop and validate field protocols including treatments, site assignments and data to be collected along with ensuring all materials (seed/chemistry) are supplied to field investigatorAct as Technical Lead for new commercial offerings in Seed, Trait, Biologicals and Crop Protection for local geographyProvide technical information on new seed, trait and Crop Protection products to Agronomy team, key academics, extension personnel and Seed Partners (Licensees)Address key technical issues (i.e. weed resistance management) and support communication to stakeholders (i.e. agronomy, academics) and identify opportunities for research collaborationsComplete safety and driving training as requiredLead safety initiatives at Market Development sites and locationsReport injuries and accidents as requiredCoordinate and participate in required safety meetingsRecruit, hire and manage summer assistantsOperate in full compliance with regulated/stewardship field trialsensuring all conditions of buffers, isolation zones, seed logs, harvest disposition reports and other necessary requirementspost-harvest monitoring of field-testing sites
Who you are:
Minimum of a B.Sc.Related experience in plant agriculture researchUnderstanding of crop production in assigned geography which may include canola, pulses, cereals, corn and soybeanAbility to organize and execute assigned field research trial programsExperience supporting or leading the development of agronomic research protocolsExperience collecting data using software and hardware toolsExperience coordinating farm activities including; HSE (Health Safety Environment), compliance and directing contract staffExcellent relationship and team skillsPossess a Canadian Valid Driver’s License in good standingPossess a Class A Restricted driver’s license, or potential to acquire is an assetBilingual French and English is an asset
