Job Description: Technical Manager (Critical Systems) – NESO Contract

 

Location: Wokingham and Reading initially, but may become National

 

Salary: Up to £70k plus benefits

 

Reporting to: Account Manager (NESO Contract)

Overview of the Role:

 

The Technical Manager (Critical Systems) will lead and oversee the delivery of technical assurance for the NESO (National Energy System Operator) contract, ensuring all contractual obligations and deliverables are met to the highest standards.  The role requires a deep understanding of high and low voltage electrical systems, mechanical systems, critical infrastructure management, Safe Systems of Work and compliance with safety and engineering standards.  As a professionally registered Engineer and Authorised Person, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, technical compliance, and innovation across the NESO contract.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Technical Assurance and Compliance:

 

Ensure all contractual deliverables related to the NESO contract are achieved to the highest necessary standards.

 

Provide assurance upon the maintenance and operational performance of M&E systems within critical environments.

 

Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and industry standards.

 

Ensure that routine maintenance is carried out to all building plant, equipment, and systems to meet and exceed expectations, and agreed service level agreements

 

Create and conduct regular reviews of operating procedures, not limiting to logbooks, QHSE, observations, audits, EOP's, SOP's and electrical safety programs, making recommendations for improvements.

 

Engineering Leadership:

 

Be the SME for technical excellence within the NESO account and embed the standardisation of Industry best practice

 

Support account team in producing business focused maintenance strategies and reliability

 

 

 

Provide strategic oversight and guidance to the team to ensure continuous improvement, ensuring the team are applying and maintaining an awareness of existing and new, emerging technologies.

 

Risk Management and Safety:

 

Identify and mitigate risks related to MEP infrastructure and system failures.

 

Ensure robust health, safety, and environmental compliance in all engineering activities.

 

Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis.

 

Stakeholder Engagement:

 

Work closely with the NESO client, providing technical reports, updates, and assurance of service delivery.

 

Liaise with regulatory bodies and third-party contractors to ensure alignment with standards and requirements.

 

Team Development and Support:

 

Provision of leadership and guidance, advice, coaching and direct support, where required to deliver best practice selection, training, assessment, and recognition/reward to the CNI operational delivery team

 

Support training programs for all authorised personnel, such as HV, LV, Confines Spaces, Mechanical, Petroleum etc..

 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

 

Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability in line with client objectives.

 

Drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices to maintain Mitie's leadership in technical assurance.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

Essential:

 

Professionally registered Engineer with membership to a relevant engineering institution (e.g., IET, CIBSE).

 

Experience of having been appointed within the role of Senior Authorised Person, with demonstrable experience of operation within High/Low voltage systems and SSoW application

 

Experience working within Critical National Infrastructure environments, particularly in technical assurance roles.

 

Strong knowledge of relevant engineering standards, statutory compliance, and safety regulations.

 

Proven ability to support the delivery of complex technical projects within time, quality, and budget constraints.

 

Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with experience engaging stakeholders at all levels.

 

Data Centre or Uptime institute knowledge/experience

 

Desirable:

 

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (Desirable)

 

Experience of having been appointed within the role of Authorising Engineer

 

CDCMP Accreditation desirable

 

ILM level 7
