Position Summary

Thales Canada Defense & Security (TCDS) is looking for a Technical Publications Manager. As a Technical Publications Manager you will be responsible for Technical Publications across the organization. They are also the Resource Manager for the Technical Publications team.

A Technical Publications Manager is responsible for overseeing the creation, development, and maintenance of technical documents and publications. This role ensures that all technical content is accurate, comprehensive, and accessible to the intended audience, including customers, users, and internal stakeholders. The manager leads a team of technical publication specialists and collaborates with various departments to gather necessary information and ensure consistency.

The Technical Publications manager reports to the TCDS ILS Manager (Head of Discipline).

Key Areas of Responsibility

The main responsibilities are:

As a Resource Manager:

Provides appropriate resources to deliver bids, projects and products.

Plans the team’s workload in the short, medium and long term.

Develops team skills to support bids, projects and products.

Supports recruitment, onboarding, performance management, career management and succession planning for the team.

Coaches, mentors and develops the team.

Leads the team to meet company expectations for productivity, chargeability, quality, continuous improvement and accomplishment of objectives.

Ensures that company policies and procedures are followed, including timesheets, time off, and travel.

As the TCDS Technical Publications Manager:

- Responsible for the establishment, standardization and evolution of processes, procedures and tooling for the technical publications.

- Ensures that the Technical Publication processes, procedures and tooling meet the current and future needs of the bids, projects and products.

- Responsible for development of lessons learned and the sharing of knowledge and experience across the technical publications discipline

- Responsible for bid, project and product estimates for the technical publication discipline.

- Implement and sustain the Technical Publications capability.

- Perform Technical Publication Planning and Management.

- Responsible for subcontractor Technical Publication requirements and activities.

As a member of the Technical Publication team:

- Responsible for performing Technical Publication work on bids, projects and products.

Minimum Qualifications

An Engineering degree or two-year diploma from a recognized university or college (mechanical, electrical, electronic, industrial, reliability, naval engineering or computer science) or certified as one the following technical trades of the CAF:  Marine Technician RQ-PO2, Weapons Engineer Technician RQ-PO2, Legacy QL 6A Marine Engineer, Legacy QL 6A Marine Electrician, Legacy QL 6A Hull Technician, Legacy QL 6A Naval Electronics Technician, or  Legacy QL 6A Naval Weapons Technician.  Five years or more experience within the last 10 years conducting technical publication work on complex systems.

Special Position Requirements

Schedule: 40 hours per week.Physical Environment: Hybrid position – which is a mix of working from home and onsite (in office, at customer site or on-board ships alongside in harbour) .Travel: Occasional domestic travel maybe required in support of the ships.

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is $91,012.50 -  $165,708.00 CAD Annual CAD Annual​. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.
