Technical Project Manager (Aerospace Gas Turbines)
Overview
We are seeking a technically minded Project Manager to lead aerospace projects from initiation through delivery. The role requires strong project management skills combined with an understanding of aerospace engineering processes, systems integration, and regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will work with internal and customer stakeholders, engineering teams, and management, ensuring complex programmes are delivered to time, cost, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate delivery of aerospace gas turbine rotating parts engineering projects, ensuring milestones, budgets, and certification requirements are achieved.Translate engineering and technical detail into project plans, risk registers, and management reports.Act as the bridge between engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.Manage project schedules, cost tracking, and reporting in line with aerospace programme standards.Ensure compliance with aerospace standards and frameworks (e.g., EASA/FAA requirements, AS9100).Facilitate design reviews, specialist inputs, and milestone gates.Identify risks, dependencies, and resource requirements early and coordinate mitigation strategies.Manage subcontractor deliverables and performance for deliverables.Support bid preparation and project proposals, contributing to technical-commercial alignment.Required Skills & Experience
Proven project management experience in the aerospace or defence sector.Strong grasp of aerospace and gas turbine engineering processes (e.g., systems integration, certification, safety-critical systems).Ability to interpret engineering documentation (drawings, requirements specs, compliance reports).Familiarity with aerospace programme life-cycles (V-model, gated reviews, configuration management).Excellent stakeholder and supplier management skills.Strong organisational skills with experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.Desirable
Engineering background in aerospace, gas turbines, or systems engineering discipline.Knowledge of military or civil aviation regulatory frameworks (CAA, EASA, FAA).Security clearance or eligibility for defence-related work.Relevant certifications (Chartered Engineer, Engineering Degree, Project Management certification).Personal Attributes
Technically curious and comfortable engaging with mechanical product design and analysis engineers on detailed topics.Strong communication and reporting skills.Pragmatic problem solver with a focus on delivery in safety-critical contexts.Comfortable working with international teams, suppliers, and regulators.
