Technical Program Manager, Data Engineering

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical Program Manager, Data Engineering is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and successful delivery of a portfolio of data engineering initiatives ensuring that data, whether structured or unstructured flows smoothly, remains consistent, and is available for insights and analytics. They are responsible for ensuring that the data environment is scalable, reliable, and resilient, adapting over time to serve as a consistent backbone for the organization’s data-related endeavors. This role serves as the central hub for coordinating cross-functional teams in the planning, design, and implementation of customer-centric data solutions and infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design efficient data pipeline. Dedicated focus on designing and optimizing data pipelines to ensure seamless, quick, and reliable data movement without loss or corruption.Ensure data quality and integrity. Committed to maintaining the purity, consistency, and accuracy of data through proactive quality control, error detection, and anomaly resolution.Collaborating with data science and analytics teams. Serve as a collaborator and facilitator, ensuring data scientists and analysts have access to the right datasets, properly cleaned and formatted, to derive valuable insights.Scale data solutions. Proactively plan and implement scalable data solutions to accommodate the organization's growing data volumes and evolving business requirements.Oversee data security and compliance. Responsible for implementing robust security protocols and maintaining compliance with evolving regulations to safeguard the organization's data assets.Continuous learning of latest technologies. Adopt a student mindset, staying abreast of the latest data engineering trends and integrating new technologies and methodologies into the organization's data ecosystem.Manage and train the Data Engineering team. Hire, nurture, and lead a high-performing data engineering team, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous learning.Coordinate with other departments. Serve as a bridge between the data engineering function and other departments, mitigating communication gaps and aligning data strategies with broader organizational goals.Crisis management and problem-solving. Proactively address and resolve complex data-related challenges, minimizing disruptions and ensuring swift resolutions.Contribute to strategy and vision setting. Provide invaluable insights on data trends and the organization's data capabilities to shape the company's broader strategy and vision.Documentation and record keeping. Ensure rigorous documentation of processes, changes, and implementations to maintain transparency and traceability.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Data Analytics, or liberal arts7+ years of experience in technical program or project management, with a focus on data engineering initiativesProven track record of leading large, cross-functional projects in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholdersExpertise in using data and metrics to drive improvements and inform decision-makingProficiency in project management and analytics software (e.g., MS Office, MS Project, Smartsheet, Tableau, Power BI)Strong problem-solving aptitude and business acumenExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear and compelling narrativesExperience in leading and mentoring data engineering teamsKnowledge of data engineering best practices, including data architecture, data pipelines, data quality, and data securityUnderstanding of emerging data technologies and their potential impact on the organizationFamiliarity with agile and hybrid delivery methodologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree or professional certification in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Data Science or relevant areaExperience in leading and managing high-performing teams within a Center of Excellence or a similar structureFamiliarity with agile methodologies and their application in service delivery and process improvementExcellent coaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to foster a culture of continuous learningStrong business acumen and the ability to align data service delivery initiatives with the organization's strategic goals
