As part of our Strategy & Business Operations team, the Technical Product Owner is responsible for ensuring one of AFP’s core grassroots engagement platforms, , evolves to meet the organization’s highest-impact needs. Acting as a strategic bridge between AFP and developers, this role translates ideas and feedback into action
In this role, you will gather requirements across departments, prioritize work based on strategic business value (not individual preferences), and communicate decisions with clarity and confidence. You must be comfortable operating at both the tactical and strategic levels turning today’s feedback into tomorrow’s vision, while always weighing the downstream effects of technical changes. How You Will ContributePartner with stakeholders across the organization to create clear, actionable user storiesTranslate high-level goals into features and workflows developers can executeMaintain a prioritized product backlog that reflects both near-term needs and long-term strategyEvaluate competing feature requests and seek and share knowledge to make informed decisions about which requests have the highest probability of advancing our strategic goalsEnsure development decisions align with broader goals like improving volunteer retention, data quality, field efficiency, or platform adoptionAssess downstream impact. Anticipate how platform changes may affect workflows, analytics, data governance, and user behavior balancing immediate needs with long-term system healthCoordinate for technical alignment. Partner with capabilities across the Stand Together community to ensure technical feasibility, prevent negative ripple effects, and align on scalable solutionsCommunicate with clarity and respect. Explain product decisions and trade-offs to staff at all levels, tailoring the message to the audience and maintaining alignmentEngage feedback constructively. Share updates regularly through meetings and documentation and use critical feedback as an opportunity to learn and grow.
