Technical Principal Program Manager
The Azure Compute Efficiency team is driving innovation at the intersection of cloud computing, large-scale distributed systems, and hardware-software optimization. We focus on improving efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness across Azure Compute. Our work spans deep technical problem-solving and strategic impact at massive scale. We’re looking for a Technical Principal Program Manager to define and lead cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in cost, margin, and operational efficiency. This role partners closely with engineering, product, supply chain, and finance teams to identify opportunities, define success metrics, and execute with precision. You’ll guide engineering teams in identifying risks, proposing data-driven mitigations, and defining success criteria that align with business objectives and return on investment. + You will be responsible for establishing KPIs and milestones, tracking progress, and driving multiple large-scale cost-saving initiatives to completion. Your work will contribute to shaping a multi-year strategy and roadmap aimed at reducing Azure Compute cost and increase gross margin while maintaining service quality and supply continuity. + You’ll oversee the execution of feature roadmaps, project schedules, and implementation plans, while also supporting governance programs. Leveraging your industry expertise, you’ll help teams validate use cases, collect performance metrics, and engage directly with customers to ensure support excellence. + Success in this role requires a deep understanding of technical architecture, strategic business thinking, and a passion for operational excellence. You’ll need to partner effectively with stakeholders and executives across diverse disciplines, analyze tradeoffs and benefits across a portfolio of initiatives, and foster alignment across product management and release planning. **Qualifications** **Required/Minimum Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development + OR equivalent experience. + 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. + 4+ years people management experience. **Other Requirements:** + Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Additional or Preferred Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, + OR product development + OR equivalent experience. + 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. + 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos). Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
